A question about consciousness?

if our consciousness, our self awareness, our sentience is just a product of chemical reactions and neurons firing then doesn't that suggest that those basic elements of reality are a lot more complex than we think, to be able to give rise to a being that can question its own existence. That takes some pretty magical stuff. That's what i think at least muhuhuh
