Average Waitress Salary?

I have an interview soon to be a server at what is described on their website as, "Upscale American." Their price range for food is from $7.25-22.95 and the dress there is "business casual." It's kind of a nice restaurant with a bar and wines and so on... "Restaurant with an upscale bar environment." I live in DE and the average waiter/waitress makes about 32,000 a year. (at least that is what I have found online) Interviewers always ask what I expect to make or what my desired salary would be and I have no idea what I should say? Minimum wage in DE is $7.15. I don't know if I should say less... Or what I should do. I don't have any experience, really. So, I don't want to ask for too much and make myself look bad. Bleh... Help.
