Acer Aspire 5630 memory - HELP!?

The memory on my Acer Aspire is running dangerously low, however the DATA (D:) drive is almost empty. Is there any way I can transfer files on to DATA (D:), in order to fit a lot more files on my laptop, or is that not possible? Is DATA (D:) even for storing files? HELP!
